AA 3.0.8 new PING display in scoreboard ...

I think some players missed the info about this and are now scary when they enter on a server and claim they lag because they see the ping higher than before in scoreboard, you can fell lag when there is some by how your gameplay is affected, delay / reaction times when you do some actions , no need to say you lag just because you see now a different display with higher values in scoreboard , if you don't feel it, then you don't have it !

Many players never read official forums or SITREP and are totally confused with the new ping display in the scoreboard, it's time to clear out what was changed in 3.0.8 display of " ping " :

In fact your ping stays the same as before, nothing changed, your ping is not worse or better than before, it's just the same , only the display have changed , now it shows correct latency to the server. In fact to compare with before it's more or less multiplied by 4 now, if previously on your server you had around 20 to 25 now you should have around 80 to 100, simple as this :  old ping pre 3.0.8 x 4 = new ping

If you check the server viewer of Battletracker website you will still see the old pings and you will see that nothing changed, servers are not more laggy with 3.0.8, if they were laggy before , they probably still are, if they were good servers before they are still good, simple as this .

There is a difference in the calculations. Standard ping is a network layer machine to machine latency test (not really affected by server load, only by the "load" of the network cards and the connection between them). The AA3 client "ping" calculation shown in the display really is a server latency calculation calculated by the response between the AA3 server and client, hence the difference from the tcp/ip ping command. This should provide more accurate quality of service info regarding the server and the client's connection to it.

The internal latency calculation didn't change. This value is converted to an unsigned 8-bit number (range 0-255) for optimized network transmission (needed by all of the other clients for display) thus the number has to be divided by 4 to transmit (max = 1020ms displayed). The client's display needed to be multiplied by 4 to restore and display the correct value (it wasn't). This error was discovered and changed in 3.0.8. Anything above 255*4 (1020) is capped (assume not playable at this latency so display above 1020ms is irrevelant). The previously displayed value (< 3.0.8) really amounted to a latency index as it wasn't tied to any specific time unit.

Hopefully this clears up the ping calculation.

So to resume quickly : pings didn't change at all, only the display changed, your ping displayed in the scoreboard is not now x 4 times higher than before , to easy comparison just divide new ping by 4 you will have old values, they were totally inaccurate before 3.0.8, i.e.: i had between 13 to 18 on the best servers when i can't have less than 40 on servers next to my house , it don't took much time to understand that they were not real pings when the game was released ...

Not enough ? go to Battletracker and check your server page to see old pings displayed, you will see nothing changed, pings are still the same, only displayed correctly now in the game scoreboard so stop freaking about this all the time when you play on servers.
